Review on 🚗 Bilstein 4600 Series Shock Absorber (Part Number 24-185394) by Chris Graves

VERY impressive shocks! Here are some tips you might want to know!

Great product with fast delivery. Light years better than my previous Monroe dampers. After I took them off, one of them was completely crushed and had a blown valve. See attached picture. Here is the reason for my review, which I only write if I really like the product and/or if I think buyers need to know some information that is not included in the description. First ordered were my Bilstein HD 4600 series rears for my 2005 Tundra 4-door SR5 2WD to replace my old Monroe-worn rear that was giving me a rough ride. They had NO instructions and a bag of washers, bushings and a nylon nut. I was really confident in the build process but I would find out. Block both front tires. You CAN use a factory jack to raise the frame in front of the rear tires, place the jack stand under the front brace of the rear core. Make sure the rear tire (NO, you don't need to remove the rear tires) is just off the ground to take the preload off the old shock. Remove the through bolt and nut on the lower shock mount on the axle. Remove the top nut at the top of the shock absorber under the bed. If necessary, you can slightly squeeze the shock absorber to remove the old block. I had to open up the lower shock mount on the axle a bit. because the lower Bilstein hub didn't fit at first. Just tap it lightly with a hammer to open it a few mm. Throw away the old shock absorbers. Install the washer up the shock rod, then the bushing. Install into the upper shock mount, lower the shock into the mount with the old bolt, then hand tighten the nut. Move to the top of the bracket and install the smaller of the 3 washers face up (use this as the medium washer that fits the hole on the bracket), then the rubber grommet and then the other large washer face up downward. Then insert the nylon nut. Several threads are visible above the top washer. Torque the bottom fastener and nut to factory specifications. Lower the vehicle to the ground to preload the new shock absorber. Tighten the shock absorber top nut until it stops on the shock absorber rod. It is in order. Go to the next page and repeat. You CAN lift one side off the ground with only one hoop at a time. part of the booth. On the driver's side, in front of the nut and the upper bumper, there is a wiring harness that is difficult to access. Simply insert the 3 plastic frame caps that secure the machine to the frame and place the machine BEHIND the upper shock. rod / nut. Now there is plenty of room to work. I used a small wrench to hold the shock's upper stem and a ratchet wrench to loosen the nut. You will need (on this car) a 14mm spanner, 17mm spanner, 17mm socket and ratchet, adjustable wrench, hammer for extra "convincing", WD40 to help . tires (important). I noticed an immediate improvement in drivability as soon as I pulled out of the driveway! A HUGE upgrade in ride comfort and handling. Really easy job, took me 1.5 hours from start to finish WITHOUT changing shocks OR installation instructions (thanks Biltstein). But it's worth every penny and you'll save a ton of it when you buy them here at Revain! I hope this helps each of you do-it-yourself guys/girls. This is an easy and quick mass suspension upgrade for our trucks. Many Thanks.
