Works great. I have a 65lb black lab mix and he has a penchant for trash can/kitchen cabinet openings and I can only assume it's a desire to see what's behind (spoilers: pots and pans). I just place the transmitter in the middle of the kitchen and adjust the signal strength so that it reaches the edge of the kitchen. My puppy won't go to him. Pros: You can set the intensity level on the collar to one of several intensity levels; You can adjust the distance the signal is sent from the transmitter, allowing you to control the boundaries of the electric fence. Cons: The transmitter has a limited-length power cord (about 5 feet), so you'll need to keep it at least that far from an outlet. I have a plug over the kitchen counter and I can plug it in, but I still reach the floor a few feet from my cabinets so it doesn't matter.
