First, let me point out that you can buy a branded DVD recorder (NEC, Toshiba, etc.) with DL built in/all formats for less than $80; try Revain and Newegg. I found and bought this I/O Magic at a local computer store. Big mistake. The drive reads the DVD slower than my 3 year old Iomega (irrelevant!), and the write speed (on DVD-R) is nowhere near as fast as advertised. Worse, about half the time it didn't recognize my DVD-Rs the first time I installed them. This is an awful product. Luckily I returned it for a full refund. Then I realized I could buy a better brand for less money from Newegg. This was my first I/O Magic product. I was just reading online reviews of their hard drive products and it seems the company's products suck. They are also sold under the Hi-Val brand, so be careful.
