This pipe insulation is just what I needed to breathe new life into my tripod. The styrofoam pipe insulation I had before started cracking and looked shabby. This styrofoam pipe is not like styrofoam insulation for water pipes. It's more like a neoprene material, just without the outer fabric layer. It really insulates (more on that later) and provides a nice grippy surface to hold on to. The only problem is how it will be folded, presumably for transport. The tube was sent in a plastic envelope and folded twice leaving three folds. These wrinkles are permanent and unsightly. It spoils the beautiful finish. I tried the same wrinkle removal techniques on neoprene by pouring boiling water over the crease and the inside of the tube. Even with boiling water in the pipe, I was able to comfortably hold the pipe out while checking the performance of the insulation. While the boiling water smoothed out some of the fine lines, the deep lines remained. Even after 24 hours, wrinkles remain. Installation Notice. These tubes fit a little to hold them in place. The inner diameter of this tube is 28 mm. My tripod leg is 28.1mm. The hose will stretch a little, maybe ±1 mm. Carefully measure the round part where you want to install it, preferably with vernier calipers. DO NOT use petroleum based lubricants such as WD-40 or grease to install them. If you do this, the hose will slip off and not stay in place. Use 91% medical grade (isopropyl) alcohol to make it easier to attach to what you intend to mount it on. DO NOT use ethyl alcohol. Clean the surface with alcohol, then pour some into the tube and rinse. While it's still wet, slide the tube across the surface. The alcohol is enough to lubricate the tube for sliding. When the tube starts to stick, lift the end and pour in some more alcohol. The alcohol will evaporate over time and the tube will stick to the surface and stay in place. I give 5 stars for the product. For the way they store and ship it I give them 1 star so 3 stars overall.
