This is an air pump. Love the watch face, I would probably choose this product again because of this feature that similarly priced competitors don't have. Order more than you need, then scale to fit your needs. This makes it quieter and offers more versatility. Anyone expecting a completely silent pump will be disappointed. This pump runs quietly on average on medium settings. I have never seen or heard of a totally silent pump except when not running. I like to sleep in a quiet room with no background noise and I would never leave this pump running in my room at night, no matter the setting. There are quieter pumps, but you pay at least twice as much for them. Most of the noise the bacon makes is the bubbles themselves, and the air pump won't make any difference; Unless you can reduce it to an acceptable level. It seems to move a lot of air for its size and price. When the dial is turned up the bubbles roar, but at the cost of more noise, so I say order more and use the dial to reduce it. I have a 400 and I can tell you from my kill. the wattmeter consumes 0.5 to 3.5 watts. I appreciate the fact that I can turn the knob to the level I want and not waste electricity on unused air; Actually I get a lot of air out of 2 bricks with the handle all the way down and it's very quiet and most of the noise comes from the bubbles themselves.
