Expels a lot of air! So much so that it seemed like the water in my 10 gallon aquarium was boiling until I turned it off! I bought a second one and will be returning the ones that are only $4 less but release 1/4 the air! CALM! It's quieter than the 2 smaller air pumps I have in my second tank! Highly recommended.
