Initially I bought a set that included a training collar and a remote control. This current purchase is for the collar only as a replacement for the original collar. After using the original collar up to 6 times a day for a year and a half, the battery slowly began to charge. I think it's an amazing lifespan for a battery! Even with multiple uses a day, I only need to charge the device every 6 weeks or more. After the first purchase my dog learned to respond to the beep very easily and when I really need to get his attention I'll jump up to vibrate. In over a year and a half I've only used the shock function three times when I was worried my good boy was in danger of chasing a squirrel down the road. It was the most valuable and effective dog training tool I have ever had.
