To add to my original review, we have had this pet door installed for quite some time. It handles Florida's harsh heat very well and performs just as well as it did when it was first installed. I've raised my rating from two to four stars because of the durability. Despite the issues mentioned in my original review, this is still a good product and I would probably buy it again. swivels easily in either direction and includes a magnet to ensure it closes properly after being used by our dog. However, the two sides of the door are held together with just six screws, and areas without screws will never fully snap or seal. I ended up drilling six holes (two on each side and one on top and bottom) and used stainless steel bolts and nuts to ensure a proper seal between the outer and inner halves of the frame. The manufacturer can easily solve this problem by simply creating six more attachment points. Disappointing as it required a trip to the HW store and about an extra $5 for bolts, washers and nuts. The second problem I encountered after installing the door was that the locking mechanism was not good. The part of the door that actually opens and closes has two sliding latches on the bottom of the door that when pressed against the frame should lock the door in place. The pins that protrude into the door frame are too short to lock the door effectively and our dog can still open it. Another trip back to HW and another five bucks later I finally have a way to lock it up if needed. I was able to take the door apart, put it back in the box and send it back, but decided to modify what I bought to make it work properly. Now the door works great and everything else is exactly what I wanted. That being said I only gave this door a two star rating as I feel these are very inevitable problems. Hopefully the manufacturer will take note and improve the product.
