Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Magnetic Platform for Sovol 3D Printer: Upgraded Efficiency and Precision by Justin Herman

Revainrating 1 out of 5

A magnet came off, couldn't stand it, the other poured black dirt. Details below:

So, now. The first time I cleaned the record very well, let it dry and then attached the magnetic pad. I aligned and then did a test print. The print failed because it did not stick to the plate. So I took the plate off and cleaned it up and then sanded it down with coarse sandpaper. I cleaned the vat and then tried another test print and it worked great and the print came out with no issues. So I thought yeah it works, it's great. I made another push, and. it went wrong. Everything seemed shaky, some parts wouldn't print and everything shook and I didn't understand why. The print adhered well to the plate. but the magnet started peeling at the corners causing the panel to warp and when I took it off there was a ton of resin between the panel and the magnet which dripped everywhere when I took it off like it was sitting there with surface tension or something. It made a big mess. I looked at the magnetic pad and it was completely ruined. The corners were peeled off and there was resin underneath, completely destroying the sticky substance that would normally hold them together. So I thought okay. at least i have two. I tore off the magnetic pad which was very well bonded to the rest of the build plate. I had to dig in with a scraper for a while and finally ripped it off. I cleaned the record again, not quite as the sticky pad left some glue residue but thought they would restick it anyway, maybe that would help. I attached the second magnetic pad and continued using the first metal plate as it was already sanded down and not a problem. I did one more test print and then hooray! It succeeded. But I saw these little black pieces in the resin. I'm totally lost. It turns out that the magnets have been reset. Every time I wipe the sides of the magnet with a dry paper towel, black streaks remain. With or without IPA on a towel. There appears to be some sort of protective coating on the front of the magnet, but they haven't bothered to put it on the sides, so they just drop bits of the magnet into the vat and it'll bump into the footprints fairly regularly. I had 3 prints out of 6 or 7 that had NO black particles. This means that I have to strain the resin after almost every print because small magnetic particles fall into the mix, which can cause who knows what a catastrophic failure. So yes, despite all the issues I've had with this product, the record itself does what it's designed for very well. I can just peel, bend and twist it and most molds come off instantly. Which is a big help. But I still have a semi-defective product and you can only use half of what I bought. Not to mention it ruined a few prints meaning I blew through a piece of resin which isn't exactly cheap. So I'm not thrilled, but I still like making prints with ease. Not sure if I should reclaim it or not because I want to use the flex plate but I also feel I deserve a refund/replacement for any issues. Anyhow, I haven't seen anyone mention these specific issues so I suspect I have a defective batch, but as it stands I can't recommend it to anyone. If I get a working one I will change the rating.

Pros
  • replacement steel plate can ensure continuous printing, restart printing before cleaning, save time.
Cons
  • weak
