The replacement valve fits easily and looks fresh and new but will not loosen the worn seal on the edge of the frame so it's not just a new door in my case at least. I'm also frustrated with the manufacturer's policy of not only supplying wear parts - rubber joints and top, bottom and side seals. I went as far as writing to the company asking about these parts, only to be told they cannot be replaced as they are "acoustically welded" to the wing panels to prevent moisture ingress. I pulled the pieces apart with a little more force than it took to replace the flapper and there didn't seem to be a weld, or if there was, it could have been fixed with some petroleum jelly. It seems clear to me that this is a simple case where they don't want to offer a cheap solution to those who can do the job, they want to maximize profits by selling the entire valve assembly for $35 (or more) and the to spin half-truths to justify them. I can't believe they couldn't find a stronger material than rubber hinges and gaskets that only last about a year. These things just annoy me. I'd recommend the PetSafe Extreme Weather dog flap instead, but only if your dog doesn't chew. If your dog chews there are metal doors on the market but I have never tried them.
