The plastic is strong and durable and the louvers flap easily with no resistance when the dryer is in use. This is a good choice if you're looking for a low-maintenance replacement for your existing range hood, especially if, like me, your current vent is an all-in-one unit that connects to an exhaust duct in the wall. In my case there was no reason to replace the exhaust pipe. Only the louvers on the existing hood vent were worn. So I left everything in place except for the old blinds (they can be easily removed... just pull out and throw away). I then installed this hood (it's just a frame) directly onto the outer frame of the existing one. The mounting holes matched perfectly so I didn't even have to drill new fasteners. I simply removed the screws from the existing vent frame and then reused them to attach this hood frame directly onto it. The frame of Speedi products is so thin that the overhang is not noticeable. Repairs are completed in less than 30 minutes and look and work great. Please note: For those installing new range hoods I would not recommend this for this purpose. There are much better options for fresh installs. Keep searching.
