Review on Tendak Composite Converter Adapter Supporting by Patrick Burns

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect little converter for my needs.

Excellent device for my needs. I bought it to send video sources from HDMI devices to a USB capture card. I don't record video with it, but for the project I used it with (Hyperion Ambilight for multiple HDMI sources) it works great. Use to power on without external USB power supply. When I connected it through a specific HDMI splitter (one output to the TV, the other to this converter) it turned on for about 5 seconds and then turned off. There's a blue LED on the bottom (? don't know why it's not on the side or top) to let you know it's on/processing a signal. In order for it to work properly, I had to power it through the micro USB port. For other reasons I switched to a different HDMI splitter and now it automatically turns on and off when there is a signal, no longer requiring USB power. The HDMI cables are the same ones I used with the other splitter, so nothing else has changed. It has its own little quirks: a couple of times I accidentally hit the video signal switch from NTSC to PAL, and it obviously distorted the picture or made the colors look fuzzy. Resetting the switch to NTSC if still connected will not fix the problem. Sometimes simply turning off the source helps, sometimes not. Then I have to unplug the HDMI and USB cable (if needed), turn off the source, then plug it back in, turn on the device, and then it works. Keep that in mind if your source doesn't work. UPDATE 09/13/2016. Another little quirk I found with this unit was that when you turn on Deep Color for PS3, this thing doesn't stay on even with the USB power cable on. Disabled Deep Color on PS3 and everything works. Don't let the Deep Color setting fool you, it won't affect your colors in any way. Just turn it off and enjoy this little box.
