Review on Minka Aire F593L ORB Traditional Concept Outdoor by Stephanie Rivera

Easy Installation, Quiet Operation, High Performance, Elegant Appearance

I bought this ceiling fan to replace an incredibly ugly lamp in our bedroom. I have 8ft ceilings and was concerned that this ceiling-hugging fan with fairly short blades wouldn't get the job done. I was wrong. Even at full speed the fan is very quiet and blows enough for our 15 x 15 foot bedroom. The guide was well written and helpful. The accessories that came with it were more than enough to get the job done. It's always nice to have a few little things left over from something like this. The wall controller has been designed with interchangeable wall panels and covers, giving you the choice of ivory (putty, beige, etc.) or white. I went with white. Everything is very well furnished. There are a few well thought out things here, like a hook to hang the motor on while you connect the wires, a rubber grommet between the lighting kit and the motor (for sound deadening I think), and using cotton insulation in place of the itchy one yellow fiberglass crap found in smaller ceiling fans. Which brings me to the only issue I have with the fan: the wall controller. The wall controller is responsive, easy to install and pre-programmed, but there is a bright green LED that glows from the bottom of the switch while the switch is receiving power from the switch. I don't know if Minka means a feature (night light?) but I find it really annoying considering that this fan is installed in the bedroom. I haven't found a legal way to disable this light and I don't understand the reason for its existence. None of my outlets have a light that constantly reminds me, "Hey! You! You can stick something in me and I'll make it work! Let us! Try!" all night. The lighting kit includes a 100W E11 medium base halogen bulb. Lamp features include 1) enough light to get dressed and 2) enough heat to cook toast and eggs while getting dressed. I suggest you replace it with a dimmable LED. There is also a tiny hole in the center of the glass dome (about 1/8"). I don't know what that hole is for. It worries me that it's there , but I know full well that _I_ am crazy, so I can't take a whole star off Mink-Aire for a mysterious hole in the dome light or an ugly wake LED.
