Review on 🎀 Shure BETA 87A Supercardioid Condenser Microphone: Studio & Live Performances with Mic Clip & Storage Bag by Trevor Rodke

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I bought one for a group I am an engineer for and they loved it so much they bought three more for theirs.

Spend enough time with audio industry professionals and the conversation inevitably turns to "What's your microphone on a desert island?" In other words, if If you only had one microphone for everything, what would it be? While many people will say Shure SM57, I wholeheartedly disagree. That's it. Hands off, no question. While it's an excellent vocal mic for live performance, it's equally impressive for recording everything from acoustic guitars to portable percussion shakers. I bought one for the band I engineer for and they loved it so much they bought three more for their entire vocal line up. . On stage, this mic really shines. The output of this mic is quite hot, but the noise cancellation is excellent. You really need to get closer to that mic. Stage noise just isn't picked up. The supercardioid polar pattern offers excellent feedback rejection in scenes with non-ideal monitor placement. In summary, this is the best stage vocal mic I have ever used.

Pros
  • Consistent frequency response with gradual increase in presence
Cons
  • So far, so good
