I was looking for a portable monitor for traveling as it's very difficult to join a large scale meeting while referencing other spreadsheets/data, all on a 13" Mac display. At first I figured I didn't need fancy gaming features, just a simple portable secondary monitor that would fit my needs. I don't play games or watch movies or anything like that with this monitor, I only use it for spreadsheets and text. I found that the standard HD screen just wasn't good enough for my use case. The low resolution strained my eyes, so I ended up returning the product I bought. This 4K product with a resolution closer to my Mac Retina display is really awesome. I'm using a Mac and this 17 inch monitor side by side in "extended" display mode, and I'm working back and forth between the two with no problem. The 17 inch monitor doesn't fit comfortably in my backpack, but I bought it for a second home with limited space. Since a vertically fixed 4K display would probably be cheaper, I settled on this portable monitor that can be neatly closed with a lid and conveniently stored overnight. This is a great solution to my situation. Although it's expensive, I'm so happy with it that I'm going to get the 15-inch travel version as well.
