I received the radio three days ago. When I received it, I plugged it into my computer and charged the Lion's battery for about four hours. It also has the option to install three AAA batteries, which act as a backup for the Lion's main battery. I took the walkie-talkie outside, away from buildings, and tuned in to the FM radio. This little radio picks up more stations than the GM radio in my car. I bought it mainly for the radio as I plan to use it while paddling in a kayak. A weather station radio should also help. All in all a very well thought out device and a dream come true for gadget lovers. I have not attempted to power the radio with a manual drive onboard generator. I recently bought a $60 Richie marine compass and compared it to the small wrist compass that came with the radio. Both agree. If you are a hiker, boater or backpacker you really need to have one of these. This is a high quality, serious and functional tool. Bill Michigan.
