Review on Kanto YU2MB: Premium 100W Powered PC Gaming Desktop Speakers with USB DAC and Subwoofer Output - Matte Black by Steven Guevara

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Followed the recommendations of others and did EQ, ABSOLUTELY a MUST!

I bought the PreSonus Eris 3.5" first because they were so expensive and so much cheaper. 2 days after purchase, the shiny red YU2s dropped from $219 to $179! now at $239. I suggest you wait if you can, they seem to fluctuate wildly in price. These Kanto YU2 are MUCH smaller than the Eris, maybe half the size. That's the biggest benefit of how compact they are. Now when you plug them in for the first time, they sound flat. There is no tone control like the Eris. Eris can give you some bass, but YU2 can't. Now that that's said you need to use EQ! By applying EQ (Equalizer APO w/Peace UI) you can enhance already excellent highs. But what works best with these speakers is toning down the bass and tweaking the mids. The low-end pop I was initially running just kept disappearing. And I was able to warm up the mids and get some semblance of low notes in. So much so that I can hear and tolerate heavy bass music. However, classical and rock are much more fun. And singing! You shine! I am considering complementing my desk with a Jamo S808 subwoofer due to the slim profile and low price. Any decent subwoofer really should make a fantastic set for an office or small room. Of course, this makes the overall cost of your rig much, much more expensive than the $99 Eris price tag. I think the Eris can do without a subwoofer if you're really budget minded. Eris is great for creating and editing sound. Very technical, very flat. These YU2s are way more musical and entertaining for me considering how much time I'm spending at home during the pandemic. I wouldn't recommend them to those who just need a set of monitors and that's it. But if you want tiny speakers on your desk (smaller than most computer speakers) that absolutely shine with an equalizer and subwoofer, get them! Oh, and they look absolutely KILLING!
