The note says one size larger if you are between - no - one size larger. Period. There is no way to fit a 34" chest in a small or a 36" chest in a medium. I bought both for my boys who were the right size and 10lbs short. I was worried they would be bulky, instead they are difficult to put on. S should wear M and M should be L and if you have muscle mass - take another brand. No way. Qualitatively acceptable - most likely enough for the season. Nice back zip, but no cuff or leg zip. If I see any threads or stitching unraveling in the first season, I'll take off 2 or 3 stars, so if they hold, 4 is fine.
