I have already bought some of these. I will do my best to give an honest review. First, the craftsmanship is good. The board is very cheap though and the first one I bought (the FX audio version) had a problem with the overall area of the power supply section causing it to short out. Be very careful when connecting the adapter. Speaking of adapters, toss the one that came with it and buy a bigger laptop power adapter. The one that comes with the kit seems to be underpowered and gets very hot. As for the bulbs, the 6k4 bulbs that come with the kit are not bad. They don't sound terrible and I recommend keeping them if you're looking for better midrange response. similar. I have used many different vintage NOS brands but the GE Jan is probably the best sounding tube followed by black hole style Westinghouse tubes. Change the op amps inside. If you're really adventurous, replace the dual op-amp with two single OPA627s. Replace the plastic bulb with a ceramic or bakelite bulb. In one of my other tube preamps I replaced the traditional capacitors with old paper oil capacitors and the sound continues to improve. If you're bored enough, you can make them sound really amazing. This is a great starting point for tube tones and electronics.
