Review on Shimano SPD Mountain Bike Bicycle Sealed Clipless Pedals - Venzo Dual Function Platform Multi-Use Compatible - Touring, Road, Trekking Bikes by Seth Torres

Good commuter pedal, but only works with some shoes

I have these on my around-town hybrid bike, and they've been great so far. I'm usually just riding with sneaker or hiking boots. They are lightweight, spin easily, and look good on the bike. My foot doesn't slip even when wet, but they're not super aggressive like a MTB platform pedal. My only negative comment is that they don't work with my Tommaso Roma cycling shoes, which do work great with all my other Shimano PD-M530 pedals and an SPD cleat. The problem is that the front of the SPD latching mechanism on the Venzo pedals is built rather thick, unlike actual Shimano pedals, where it is thinner and tapering. So these are not actually 100% compatible with Shimano SPD.The front edge of cleat sits very close to the hard plate in the sole of the Tommaso shoes for some reason. I tried another brand of shoe, and the Venzo pedals SPD latching mechanism worked fine then. I did not see any interference with the Venzo as a result of fully recessed cleats like on the Tommaso shoes vs only partially recessed cleats. Looks like I'll need a different shoe for commuting vs riding my other road and MTB bikes, or I will have to shim the cleat up higher. I tried the small shims included with the Venzo pedals but it was not enough.

Pros
  • ‎Adult
Cons
  • May not provide enough surface area for comfortable riding
