This coffee maker has been in my family for 6 years, it was purchased here at Revain in 2010 and I am in the process of buying another one for work. better than any restaurant we visit, better than coffee with friends and family. just unbelievable, unbelievably good. I've had a few minor maintenance issues over the years (see below) but these were overcome very easily and overall it was a super reliable and very good value instrument. Honestly, this has to be one of my all-time favorite home appliance purchases. And all for less than $40. Take THAT, you overpriced, overpriced drip machines that make lousy coffee! ;-)*TIPS*For this and any other stainless steel percolator, there are a few basic guidelines to follow that are not necessarily listed in the manual: 1. DO NOT USE A PAPER FILTER. Is always. Use ONLY a metal basket. The holes are small enough to let coffee through but retain 99.9% of the profit. By using a metal basket without a paper filter, the aromatic oils naturally found in the coffee beans can STAY in the coffee and contribute to its amazing taste. and full of flavor. When you use a paper filter, you lose oils and end up with an "over-extracted" taste that's bitter rather than oily. So don't use a paper filter, follow the instructions and you're GOLD - perfect coffee every time. Yes, you get a few grains in the last cup with no paper filter. Exclamation de du, just don't drink the last drops from the very last cup - problem solved. ;)2. Cleaning the pot: Make sure there is no debris on it, but don't rub the inside. Let the percolator aromatize. It's hot enough to avoid bacterial problems, just like a wok or baking sheet. So let this pup gain experience, it is completely harmless and tastes better over time! The key point for assembly is the receiving "hole" in the bottom of the pot for the metal tube. This can lead to a build-up of coffee residue fairly quickly, and if you don't clean it, the metal tube will interfere with the proper fit and you won't be able to brew your coffee properly, if at all. All you have to do is scrape off the excess with your fingernail and you're done. On the outside of the pot, however, feel free to tidy it up and make it super shiny. It really is a beautiful piece after cleaning! 3. Empty the Recycle Bin. The tiny holes in the basket may be clogged after about a month of daily use. On the other hand, there are two options: chemical (cleaner) or with a wire brush. I prefer the wire brush route and just tap the bottom of the basket, which instantly cleans holes and keeps years of perfect seasoning intact. Wire brush FTW.4. When assembling a coffee pot to brew coffee, if you don't line up the metal tube with the inlet hole in the bottom of the pot, you'll end up with a backfire, leaving you with weak coffee (at best), not just a pot of hot water. To prevent this, after aligning the metal tube with the receiving hole, twist the metal tube left and right as if trying to screw it in cleanly. In fact, she doesn't mess it up. Pop in the hole if he's not already in the hole. Preferably. To deceive. Always.5. Don't overfill the coffee basket - the closer you are to the top of the tube, the more likely the beans will settle to the bottom of the pot. However, do not overfill it or you will end up with weak coffee. Follow the instructions and you will be fine.6. It is possible to leave the coffee on and ready to work for a long time in the form of a FULL pot. If you leave less than half of the pot for more than an hour, TURN IT OFF, the coffee can burn if left long enough, just like ANY coffee pot. However, I've left a full pot plugged in for 4 or 5 hours and it's still not bad at all. Obviously, the fresher the better - just don't settle for very little coffee or your coffee will understandably taste less than expected. MAINTENANCE: I had to replace the cord/plug once as it blew a little short after thousands of uses. Any suitable plug/wire off the shelf will do. it's just a straight, no-frills, two-prong AC cord. Very easy. I also saw the screws that keep the base loose over time as unfortunately they are not rust resistant metal. However, a quick trip to the local hardware store will get you brand new ones; Just bring the old ones with you and ask a hardware specialist for help. I replaced the bottom bolts about 2 years ago when they got too rusty so my lifespan was 4 years. You may be able to prevent the rusty screw problem by covering the holes with hot glue to keep water out when you clean the outside. That would probably work perfectly, but I haven't really tried it.
