Review on M 2 Adapter Aluminum Heatsink Solution by Timothy Cox

I have an MSI x470 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard with two M.2 slots. I always thought both could run at full speed with two hard drives. I made a mistake so I had to order an adapter and use a 16x or 4x PCIe slot. I ordered this thinking my drive could run in either of the two x4 PCIe slots I had, but I was wrong. From the looks of it, it's actually an 8-way adapter. You need a free 16x slot to install this adapter. After installation, my drive actually reached the advertised speed. I have a Samsung 1TB 970 EVO plus as a gaming drive, this adapter pushed this drive to its full potential. However, when I first installed it, I did it without a heatsink or thermal pad. Bad move on my part, it got my motor close to 100C. After I installed the heatsink and thermal pad, the temperature never exceeded 80C. The heatsink doesn't screw into the adapter itself, it just sticks to the thermal and the spacer to the disc. Actually pretty smart. This kit also includes a screwdriver and a pair of PCIe support brackets. Great quality, would recommend if you can't get the full speed of M.2 in your motherboard slot. Just note that you need an empty 16x PCIe slot to install this.
