I recently purchased this DVD burner to reinstall Windows XP on my Dell Dimension 2400 desktop. My desktop is 9 years old and uses an IDE Interface like this DVD recorder. The choice of IDE optical drives was limited. This one looked decent. I haven't reinstalled Windows XP in almost 5 years, so my desktop didn't run smoothly; although I didn't use my desktop much at the time. Instead of buying a new computer, I decided to upgrade my old desktop as it has always treated me well, with the exception of optical drives. The optical drive (CD burner) that was installed in my new Dell computer 9 years ago failed after about a year of light use. So I ordered a new one (a DVD recorder) which broke a few years later, but I hardly used it either. So here is the third one for my desktop and nothing else failed on it except optical drives. I hope this lasts me for some time. The physical installation was easy and I still had some installation experience. I forgot I need a program that can burn DVDs in Windows XP. Previously I used either the Roxio program or the Sonic program. This time I downloaded one of them and it allowed me to burn my photos and files before reinstalling Windows on my desktop. The drive worked as expected. I haven't used LightScribe or anything else this drive might be capable of. Hopefully this disc will have a longer lifespan than my others.
