It may sound weird, but I ended up using it as a wrist rest! It wasn't as good as a coaster because the little protruding rubber fingers don't let the glass sit well. It was kind of crap. But it was still on my desk, and I rested my hand on it when I wasn't typing. Pretty comfortable and have a good level of softness and stiffness. It's weird, but ergonomics are important and they're pretty well worked out. The coasters don't have any weird smell which is a big plus. Regardless of what they are made of, this is not a material that picks up dust easily.
