Used on a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L and it fits perfectly. I tested the unit in boiling water on my stove before installing it to make sure it worked to avoid having to replace it again and catching all the new coolant. Not sure if the other reviewers are referring to the gasket but it looks as solid as the factory one I took out. The actual mechanism is a bit smaller, but that doesn't mean it doesn't allow for proper coolant flow. Time will tell how long it will last, but it was fine for my first week. INSTALLATION NOTE: Now for all your 4.7 liter owners who have the thermostat housing on the underside of the engine. The bolts you remove are steel and the timing case cover is aluminum. If you haven't changed the thermostat in a very long time, there's a good chance you'll break the bottom screw on the case since it's exposed on the back. Mine broke with very little torque trying to remove it. I had no success with bolt pullers and ended up having to use a right angle drill to get it out and rethread. If I had to do it all over again I would douse the bolts with penetrating lube every day for a week before attempting to remove them and on the day of removal I would use a flashlight to gently heat the area to loosen the body hold the bolt. Bolt. What should have been a 15 minute job turned into a 3 hour challenge.
