Review on 💦 Gates 42004 High-performance Water Pump by Mat Thompson

Good buy, popular brand for less than $20? This was on a 2001 Cherokee 4.0L. I also bought a new Dorman 56398 pickup tube for quicker installation in the lot. Works perfectly, the evolution is about 2 hours, the part fits like new and works great with no problems. Also bought a thermostat housing, stat etc but felt the screw would snap when removing it so left the old stuff in place. Replacement is possible without removing the stats case, but it would be better to remove the stats case if possible. The housing prevents you from seeing the sealing surface, which needs to be clean to prevent leaks. The pump was paper lined, I used Permatex to make sure we didn't have any leaks. The housing screws can be loosened easily. As a suggestion, before loosening the accessory belt, remove the water pump pulley bolts. Thus, the auxiliary belt helps to keep the pump from rotating. If you attach a wrench to a nearby bolt, you can use that extra leverage to keep the pump from spinning. Otherwise, unscrewing the pulley bolts will be problematic. The same for installation, tighten after installing and tightening the accessory strap.
