💦 Gates 42004 High-performance Water Pump Review

No problem, with A/C our system keeps 200 (correct operating temperature. We pair them with Spectra radiators (https://amzn.to/2Ec82kq) in almost all of ours Jeeps, and replace both at the same time for cheap insurance (plus it saves you coolant). I usually get about 5 years off one of them, which isn't any better, but it's not bad either.

The casting of this pump is impeccable and the impeller is very tight (I know the interference fit) but close tolerances are maintained between the pump housing and the pump housing. The impeller and shaft hold well and smoothly in stock so hopefully a long life because honestly no matter how easy it is to change a pump you don't want to do it twice in a short time! Many thanks to Gates for a very high quality pump.

I installed it on my '92 Cherokee Laredo i6 a few weekends ago and for the first few weeks it did its job well. Of course things can change over time but I hope this will last at least 100,000 miles. Who knows. Overall the installation went well, the part looks solid so time will tell. I recommend buying a new intake manifold and installing it on this pump before installing them together on your car. The old inlet pipe from my old pump was pretty rusted so it had to be removed. Good buy, popular brand for less than $20? This was on a 2001 Cherokee 4.0L. I also bought a new Dorman 56398 pickup tube for quicker installation in the lot. Works perfectly, the evolution is about 2 hours, the part fits like new and works great with no problems. Also bought a thermostat housing, stat etc but felt the screw would snap when removing it so left the old stuff in place. Replacement is possible without removing the stats case, but it would be better to remove the stats case if…
