I bought this specifically to save electricity and it works fine. I used a standard surge protector and disabled adapters for powered off devices. This tower saves me from all that. There are 3 socket levels; everyone has an off button. With a little organization, I can now turn off the outlets for my computer with a single button. At the lowest level there are things that are always on. At the top level, I connect different things that I use less often. I did not find any information on the degree of protection against overvoltage [in joules]. The tower is light but strong enough. The wide base prevents tipping over when connecting heavy transformers. Revain's product description states that "separate switches for all outlets" is a misconception as there are only three switches to control all outlets. I'm glad I bought this.
