I just got the Pentax K200D and it's amazing, my first thought when I picked it up was how reliable the camera is! Especially compared to Canon Digital Rebel XSi and Nikon D40! The kit lens is great too, very sharp and has a decent manual focus ring (hooray!). Pentax also included a lens hood! The camera is very sensitive when shooting, if you give the camera a second or two after taking four or so shots in quick succession you will be shooting fine in JPEG or RAW. fast and reliable in most conditions, slightly slower in low light but still accurate in most cases, not as fast as Nikon or Canon systems but damn close. Image quality is absolutely amazing, but if you want better shots you can undoubtedly use the more manual modes and shoot in RAW (PEF or DNG). The camera gives you some default picture tones that you can adjust to your liking when recording in JPEG format. I would recommend shooting with a "light" tone if you don't process your JPEGs, but if you want to post-process I would recommend shooting with a "natural" tone. Times, but the camera also has a fair number of white balance presets, so you'll likely be able to find a preset that suits the lighting conditions you're shooting in, and if you can't, you can use a custom white balance, which lets you do well. Customize it if you like. Battery life is also excellent, I took about 1100 shots with Energizer AA Li-Ion batteries, which Pentax says the camera can do with AA Li-Ion batteries. I was able to take about 850 shots with the Sanyo Eneloops Hybrid Ni-MH batteries, which is also really amazing.
