Review on JapanBargain S 1548 Japanese Kitchen Stainless by Joseph Flamm

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not very sharp out of the box, but good for $13. I prefer cheap Santoku.

I never had a Japanese knife until the last time. This one is terribly sharp and is made out of a very high quality material called Japanese White Steel. It cost about $75 which was cheap compared to many others. Or like Wendy's version of ciabatta. Or as bicycle snobs call cheap bicycles "bicycle-shaped objects". It's not particularly sharp out of the box. Some people mentioned that it looked like it had a slight bevel on the back. This was probably only done to remove burrs from the regular side sharpening. I also bought 400, 600, 800, and 1200 grit sandpaper. With these I was able to enhance the edge and remove the tiny bevel on the back. How it cuts isn't something I'm used to, but it's not bad. I've never used a bevel knife before, so it's on me. It was better than the knives where I left off.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Not as good as it says
