I would like to clarify a few negative things I've read about this mat. First, it doesn't tear more easily than smaller rugs; This is a cat litter catcher mat, not a floor mat, so it is soft and flexible and if you handle it roughly you will tear it, so grab it with both hands and be careful. The softness allows the rug to flex a bit around the edge of the wall if needed, preventing more dirt from getting in. Second, of course, the bedding is difficult to pull out of the mat, as it should be. Other mats simply roll off dirt, but this one actually catches it. However, you need to vacuum or shake it outside. When I vacuum, I take a corner and shake it a little to make the filler pop free, then vacuum and repeat several times. Yes, if something spills on it, it will stick: you have to get wet and catch the dirt straight, you can't rub it. Use plenty of spray cleaner and continue blotting as with carpet cleaning instructions for stain removers. If possible, you can then also rinse it out with a hose or shower. If small pieces get stuck in the mat, just grab something sharp like a toothpick or paper clip and pull them out. There is a carpet about a foot long in front of my box and some debris is still on the floor; I'm sure if I had a little more room the mat would take it all away, but it does get a lot of dirt into the mat and I'm glad of that.
