GEARWRENCH 3529D Heavy Filter Wrench Review

For stubborn and heavily tightened filters, this is awesome. I work as a diesel truck mechanic and I had an associate tighten oil filters on a few Mack engines and it cost me everything to take the first 6 off with some oversized locks and a regular filter wrench. Got it and it was the difference between day and night. Removed them easily. I used an 18" twist ratchet and now the over tightened filter is not a problem.

When I ordered this I thought it wasn't worth the price but I need it so I ordered it. After using it I can say it's worth every penny. I used to use big pliers and they ruined the finish of whatever you unscrewed. I then tried the rubber band type and tried to align the band in the groove and it came out. pain in the ass! This tool makes life much easier. Wrap the strap around and install the ratchet handle to loosen and rotate. Install to tighten to tighten. Just. Worth every penny!

I work as a diesel engine repair technician in a large shop. This filter key works 99% of the time. The other 1% of the time it slips and you end up punching through the engine block or frame. Only 4 stars because it wouldn't be that hard to tighten the inside diameter of the wrench. Also the wrench sometimes likes to get stuck on its own rivets and it hurts a bit in tight spots. Fits my 07 F150 fan clutch. Tighten, one hammer blow, loosen on the first hit. (NO returns). This truck has a speed sensor on the fan clutch which limits space for the key, but this key fits perfectly. Please note that there are two sizes of shaft that the nut screws onto: 30mm and 36mm. I have 36mm. Not sure if all 07 36mm. Looking at water pumps online I noticed that both 30mm and 36mm fit my car but 30mm would be too small. Just measure the nut. Mine was just over 47mm.

So I bought this specifically for a Nissan SUV I'm working on (for myself) and went to install the kit before I installed the balancer and. the adapter shaft was not as long as it should be! I will not be returning it as there is no problem with the kit as I will be keeping it for other cars I am working on. I use this for servicing air brake filters and other large diameter filters on heavy bus and truck chassis. It seems very well made and works well for what it is, but sometimes the strap wrenches can twist and hurt if your force angle isn't perpendicular. Having both 3/8" and 1/2" ends is handy, although I mostly use an 18" snap-on 1/2" ratchet and this strap wrench packs some serious power can handle. Purchased for fan clutch 02' 7.3L. Has worked flawlessly. The quality of the wrench was excellent, much, much better than what you would normally find at your local auto parts store. You would have to seriously abuse this thing to break it. Combined with the Gearwrench 3900 Universal Fan Clutch Holding Tool, removing the fan clutch was practically a breeze. I hesitated to buy this item because some people said it didn't fit. But I needed to replace the water pump on an old farm truck, so I ordered one.
