This is a great little device for storing hours on small engines. I bought it to install on my new 1000 watt generator so I know how many hours it runs between oil changes. This works great for clock tracking and has a nice feature you can set for reminders, but I've tried all the different settings and different twists on the spark plug wire but couldn't register the RPM properly (that's why I'm deducting four stars). ) So if you buy it for RPM monitoring I would be careful as it might not work for you. However, if you're just looking for tracking and reminders between oil changes, this is a great device for that and I highly recommend it. A nice feature is that the motor turns on automatically as soon as you start it, but you have to turn it off manually as it doesn't turn off automatically and might drain your battery faster. Another thing I didn't like is that the battery is very difficult to hold in place when trying to put the battery cover back in place (it kept wanting to pop out!) and the battery cover doesn't seem to have a good seal so I didn't want to get them wet. Another note is that if or when you use it to determine engine RPM, you won't be able to see the number of engine hours until you turn off the engine. If you only use it to display engine hours, it will show you the hours even when the engine is running.
