We bought this for our small/medium sized dog. I figured the spring would help relieve the pressure as it runs at full speed and nears the end of its line. But the spring mechanism is stuck in its case (looks like they put the spring in and then painted it). We used it anyway as it couldn't have been worse than what she already got with the chain. A day later, she tore the spring from the sides, but now the spring is stuck in the folded position. The spring is too big for the case it's in, so now it's getting stuck and won't spring back. If our 15 lb dog can do this, so can your large dog. But aside from the spring, the product works as intended. The main reason we switched to one of these is because she was deadly with her chain, she loved running around your legs and banging your ankles with it. With a rubberized cable, it's a lot more ankle-friendly.
