This is an excellent tabletop radio, portable enough to take and listen to anywhere. D-type batteries and power cord make it versatile. Micro/SD and USB slots (all 3) are very good. Sitting on the outside wall of my house and near the window, it's MUCH MORE true than I can tune into one of my cars or other tuners around the house (AM and FM). Shortwave can be used with a telescopic antenna, but a long wire from a window really brings it to life. Of course, time of day, weather and other factors affect SW more than AM and FM. It also picks up overlapping stations and can sometimes be tuned better, if they're coming from either side of that frequency (scrolling back and forth VERY slowly from R to L or L to R on the dial, I've found I can tune in to some stations better when they're next to others). For shortwave, there's a TON of frequency space in a small dial (some radios have 8-12 separate bands on the switch, but it's all on the same dial here). I will miss the stations. Although it's not difficult. The sound quality is very good. There is no deep bass and no screaming high frequencies. It won't shake the table or itself very much, but it will sound full and will play loud enough to fill the room for everyone in it to hear. It won't shake walls and certainly not a boombox. Advantages: D Rechargeable batteries and AC option Compatible with mp3/wma, maximum card size 32GB for SD/MicroSD Highly selective and sensitive tuner Controls are easy to read, use and enjoy. - Decent length telescopic antenna, looks solid and heavier than some small radios - Great sound for all day listening, music, talk radio, background but can be enlarged to fill a room so others can hear it too. Cons: - pen feels cheap - very thin plastic but heavy enough to get the job done. It doesn't look like it's about to break - The display only works in MP3/USB mode - In MP3/USB mode the display is lit all the time. This shortens battery life. The tuner has a strange gain control function, where the station will be weak, but then suddenly become much louder. It's really not bad, but takes some getting used to. It is not configurable as a fully manual tuner as it is a DSP. I would recommend this radio to anyone who wants a functional, easy to use and reliable radio
