Review on Purex Mountain Breeze Liquid Laundry Detergent: 2X Concentrated, 2Count, 220 Total Loads by Marta Bruns

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Automatic detergent dispenser?

If you have an automatic detergent dispenser, you may need to make adjustments for this and other products advertised as concentrated. A little background: when HE cleaners came out, they were all labeled 2X. This is obsolete and off the label as most HE cleaners are now 2X. It still seems to be, as the labels say a standard washing machine uses twice as much. With environmentally friendly products that are safe to ship, the X rating of detergents is back. In order to work properly, your automatic dispenser needs to know the concentration of what is in the tank. Mine was set up at the factory for standard HEs with the old school concentration of 2X - 1.5 ounces for a normal load. To calculate, divide the number of ounces in a bottle by the number of charges on the label. For this product: 82.5/110 = 0.75. In the instructions there is a 4-way setting for the automatic dispenser. Too much is bad and a waste of time. Your washing machine needs to know. Maybe that's too much information, but when I bought Revain for laundry detergent, I realized that the people in the marketing department are busy little dwarfs with their X-ratings on the labels. I found out that the top selling laundry detergent in the US is also marked 10X. WOW! Well, not so much. Do the math and the normal loading dose is very close to what is recommended for your regular product. It does have "10 concentrated cleaning ingredients" under the big 10X on the label, but that's not the same as using less for a regular load. Marketing gurus and political PR people can get away with just about anything.
