Very wide hips and a slightly short leg. I don't recommend them, even for overweight kids of average height

UPDATE 8 29 15: I HATE these pants! I've re-ordered a size smaller and they are still large and sloppy on my medium height preschooler. You also need to wait until next year, and the hem needs to be adjusted because the length will be too short. I plan to turn them into capris when the time comes. Thank goodness I paid $7 or $8 for a two pack every time! I would be furious at the $23+ price I see on them now. Due to the hip measurement, you need to order 1 size smaller, but then the length will be too short. There is a small 1/2 inch hem so it doesn't seem like you can get much in there. They can work if you have a chubby little kid. Still I would order 1 size smaller unless they are REALLY wide at the hips/buttocks. They were very wide at the hips and waist, but their relation to the length of the pants was wrong. By the time my kid can tuck his hips into these pants, they'll be just a tad longer than Michael Jackson's short silver socks. It curves at the hips like Amelia Earhart's pants. In other words, if your child has a large tummy and/or hips, this is ideal. I hope when my child is a teenager the junior pants will be the same. Then they need a fuller hip. But not now. I'll be saving them for next year and loosening the hemline, but I think they'll still be a bit big, but at least not as casually big on her as they are now. . My child will be 5 soon, has a small tummy but is medium height overall for his age. I usually buy my daughter a size up so I can wear underwear in the winter. These pants are even too wide at the hips and waist for that. I pulled the adjustable tongue up to the 7th hole on each side. She will most likely need it next year, but this year it's too big. I recommend taking your child's size to allow for layering. If the layering is too large, one size smaller may be more appropriate, but the length may be a little short.
