Good coverage but be careful when applying and lower expectations of coverage

I bought this product because I had walls that were already painted with a sand texture and I was doing a wall repair that at the end some areas were sanded smooth. So I wanted to use this additive with the new paint so that the walls have a sand-like structure and no smooth repair areas can be seen. To that end, this product has worked perfectly. I added a 1 lb box to a gallon of paint and it covered very well. No smooth spots. However, there are two things you should consider when applying. First, since you don't have room in a 1-gallon can of paint, the directions say to mix it in a separate container - that's very true. The directions didn't make it clear that adding this product to your paint WILL noticeably REDUCE the opacity of your paint. I used WAY more paint to cover the room I was painting than I would paint a similar sized room with paint alone (no additives). So when you calculate coverage, you (roughly) cut it in half when using this additive. Second, if you are applying with a roller (I used a 3/4" dimpled roller cover, make sure the roller cover is filled with paint (with an additive)! Under normal circumstances, you roll some paint onto the roller and wear them onto the wall, and then apply gentle pressure to push the paint out of the roller. DO NOT do this with this additive in the paint. Instead, paint the roller cover, paint the wall, and once you start, even losing the paint on the roller cap, reload. If you try to "squeeze" the paint out of the roller cap with this additive, you will get big gritty globs of the additive on the wall, not an even application. If you do it with apply lots of paint With the roller the additive spreads smoothly and you get a good even coating and a great grainy texture that actually hides the imperfections of the wall very well Wear Si e put the paint on the roller cover and you should get good results after realizing that I found it a great addition to be vka that covered my walls as expected.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Will do
