I am new to gilding and have used 23 karat tin for nameplates on my paintings. I used to use a leaf that lay between the leaves of a book and could be removed for use and placed on a gilded cushion. This was quite difficult for a less experienced gilder. I ordered a Barnabas leaf in 23k and found that each gold leaf was nested in a book, as well as a strip of fabric that could be easily removed and placed on a cushion. This is a very preferred way of packing and makes my job so much easier and more professional! I even gilded clam shells from dinner at a restaurant recently. Additionally, Dave Thompson has extensive knowledge on the subject and will be working overtime to help. He made me a much better goldsmith and provided better materials. Sincerely, John B.
