Review on External sound card BEHRINGER U-CONTROL UCA222 by Jnis Uptis ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A really necessary purchase, I'm glad I found this product.

As already said, the noise of this card is very difficult to hear, you can even say it is not audible. But the most important thing is the distinctness and transparency of the sound by analogy: it really surprises how IT can sound for such a price! In fact, it surpasses many sound cards in quality, comsting many times more. It does not lubricate the drums, the attack is clear, the iron articulates perfectly, all the reverb and tails are audible, itcomnveys the scene well in depth, everything is transparent, the bass does not flatten. The headphone output pumps even high-impedance 250 Ohm mugs well. The smallest buffer latency that I managed to set for sane work in Cubase is 20ms. Below, or shut up, or did not work at all. When the multitrack was crammed with instruments, I had to set the buffer to 100ms, and everything played smoothly, even when the processor load was close to 100% on the Cubase indicator. The only disappointment is SPDIF, which really lathers at high frequencies due to intense phase differences in the channels. I don’t even know why theycomuldn’t make such a simple thing that works properly even on cheap motherboards . Upon opening, it turned out that inside is a fairly simple circuit, where the center of all activity of the device is the Burr Brown PCM2902E - a 16-bit bidirectional DAC-ADCcomdec chip with remarkable characteristics. Here is what it looks like inside (the picture is not mine, UCA202 has an identical internal design, differs only in the graycomlor of the case and the absence of a disk with useless software): . Pros
  • Low cost. Surprisingly good sound for the price. Analog stereo output and stereo input on tulips. The presence of a sufficiently powerful headphone output with volume control. Analogue noise is inaudible! Digital optical SPDIF output. Working with ASIO 2.0. Convenient shape and dimensions.
Cons
  • SPDIF out of phase on HF. The headphone knob creaks a bit when adjusting the headphone volume. The driver is not ated, I would like to reduce the buffer. The supplied software was useless.
