I've never had a "self-locking" tape measure before so I decided to give it a try when it came time to replace my old FatMax warhorse. I've heard that the Craftsman Tools have gotten a little better lately after turning into crap, so I thought I'd give it a try. I made a bad move. This "self-locking" strap is non-blocking. The blade creeps back, and not very slowly. It doesn't spring back the way I pulled it in, instead crawling back 1-2 inches every minute. In order to lock the blade, I have to apply a lot of pressure and hold while sliding the button down. It won't work like a normal lock even though they claim it does. The blade will stick out about 10 feet and the numbering is easy to read. Those are the only pluses I see in this roulette. Without a working lock it's useless to me (I bought another FatMax) so I give 1 star. Btw I contacted Craftsman about 8 days ago about this but got nothing from them.
