Review on πŸ“Έ Black Zeiss Loxia 2.4/85 Telephoto Lens for Sony E-Mount Mirrorless Cameras by Chris Horton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Under the radar, exceptional 85mm. Stunning optical performance.

I could not buy this Zeiss 85mm lens for a long time because there are very few reviews. One particular review spoke of the sterile optical perfection of this lens. There was constant talk about optical perfection and sharpness, and many manufacturers responded with sterile optics with impeccable sharpness and correction. It comes at a price to justify the myriad of corrective optics and coatings. The photos captured with these lenses reflect optical qualities, but without soul or character. I know this because I've been trying to get optically perfect lenses, but I've been dissatisfied in many ways. Imaging with this optic. I started focusing on how lenses best reflect the story. And this lens did not fit. I finally took a chance and bought it, thinking I'd return it if the pictures didn't meet my criteria. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised. The lens is sharp, but the colours, contrast and overall image were Zeiss. Bravo! Highly recommended!

Pros
  • 85 mm fixed focal length with outstanding image quality for professional and demanding portrait, wedding and bridal photography. High light intensity thanks to f/2.4 aperture.
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly
