Fixed trailer issue

I have a newer trailer (Volvo VN 680) that has been known to drain the battery if it sits for days. The original owner installed the switch, but I knew I'd forget about it, and my truck often sits idle for a week or two. An internet search revealed that many people have battery drain issues and I finally found this article. Here's what I did: There are some wires going to the batteries. The original owner left some wires directly on the batteries and this is REQUIRED for the DEF hardware to work properly, not to mention the clock radio and a few other things. This left a thick cable going from the switch to the starter and a smaller cable - the smaller relatively still large enough to run a petrol engine car. I argued that I didn't need to worry about the rest since it didn't shut down when the disconnect occurred. I assumed this cutout would be able to handle the starting current draw of a class 8 diesel and that wasn't really a problem as it only needed to draw current when it was switched on (sometimes manufacturers run wires to the starter motor and not the Battery so I crossed my fingers) There was a smaller cable which I routed to this unit by following the instructions from there. I haven't been out and about since installing it, so I can't yet test whether this holds up to abuse, but I'm happy to report that the issue has been resolved. Where he died earlier over the weekend, he sat for a couple of weeks and immediately made money. A little remark. if you jump and turn the key and get nothing. Waiting. The restart takes a few seconds. That only happens when he's been sitting for at least a few hours, so I think that's perfectly acceptable. I love it so far!
