It might cut your head off. As others have said, the blades are like blunt machetes. A $75 fan is a steal. The speed controller looks like a box from a bad 1975 movie. Clumsily large and well useless. I love the fan. I'm renovating my house and putting a fan in the living room. In summer my dog chokes and thanks me appreciatively. The stem can be shortened, I shortened mine from 18 inches to 8. It really isn't a smart buy for the price, the only problems are the blades are metal and the stem may need to be cut and drilled for the locking pin. No problem.
