Review on Roku Streaming Stick (2018) - Portable Power-Packed Streaming Device with Voice Remote, TV Power, and Volume Buttons by Daniel Shivashankar

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I like the Roku service but the reliability of their products is terrible.

I didn't give this star because of Roku but because of the product you will receive. I had a Roku 3. I think Roku streaming devices are the best streaming devices out there. You get access to all streaming services and some cool features like voice search and remote controls with headphone jacks. I'm giving this product 2 stars because it has a known design flaw and Roku isn't tackling it with a new product, but with a band-aid. what they give you for free. If they hadn't given you a Band Aid, I would have given them a start. My problem is that the remote keeps disconnecting making your Roku unusable as you can only control it with the remote. The only solution is to turn off the Roku, unplug the remote's batteries, and plug them back in. And then I'm happy if it works 50% of the time. The problem Roku KNOWS about is that this thing suffers from interference from other wireless devices and RF leaks from your TV! How do you launch a product these days that isn't immune to radio interference? Where my TV is, I have a wireless soundbar, a Wi-Fi router, a cable modem, the TV itself (no Wi-Fi), a Chromecast, and a boosted digital antenna. EVERYTHING today either has RF leaks or is a connected device. YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF PRODUCTS WITH RFI SHIELDING, ESPECIALLY NETWORKED PRODUCTS! I work as an engineer for a consumer electronics company. Testing this is an IMPORTANT milestone in the product development cycle. I'm not sure how Roku thought it was a good idea to release a product that had this issue, and if they even bothered to review it. Anyway I'm furious I need to order a key from Roku now hopefully this will help with my problem. I'm already pissed that I had to order this stick to replace my Roku 3 which started having weird audio and video issues that made everything unviewable after only 3 years. Roku's lineup is best-in-class, but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. If Revain and Google didn't have a heated argument over what media you can access on your devices, you can bet I'd jump straight into their offerings and be done with Roku's reliability issues.
