Review on πŸ”’ HID OMNIKEY 3121 R31210320-01 USB 3.0 Gray Smart Card Reader: Efficient and Versatile! by Adam Nikolz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Robust CAC reader

Summary: I had an old SCR331 and decided it was time to upgrade it as it was starting to fail. Recommendation: Update the driver from the HID website (link below). YES, it works with Windows 10 without _but_ the Windows driver is generic and was released in 2006. HID has an updated driver from last year (2019). One weird behavior is that I also have a Dell CAC keyboard and using my CAC in HID Omnikey sometimes didn't recognize the card; I need to remove and reinsert the CAC. Maybe this driver update will help (this hasn't happened in the last 24 hours). Pros: 1) Same parent company that owns ActivClient (or more like HID bought Omni). 2) Good fit and finish. The vertical stand is a plus and can be removed for alternative orientations. 3) Drivers for Linux and Mac are also available (not verified). his monitor (which makes it easy to remember to pull out your CAC when you leave the place). Disadvantages: none.

Pros
  • ISO 7816 Standard, EMVCo Terminal Level 1; meets the requirements of TAA; GSA Approved Fips 201
Cons
  • Big and Bulky
