The concept is simple: smooth edges for finishing, sharp edges for scraping. You use them in the opposite way as a chisel; Attach the pointed edge to the tree and pull it toward you. It removes a small amount of wood and leaves a fairly smooth surface. Various shapes allow you to clean flat sides, curves and grooves. This is a high quality, well made scraper set. They are good at turning wood from rough to smooth and can provide a very smooth wood finish with moderate use. They can replace coarse sandpaper and keep wood scratches intact. You will still need to use either fine sandpaper or a buffing machine for the final finish. You will find many opinions on which one works best. As far as these tools are concerned, they do their job very well. Press hard and they will remove small strips of wood. Squeeze lightly and they bring the wood to quality. Treat with a polisher or fine sandpaper.
