I can clean the entire bottom of a 10 gallon open bottom tank with this and it typically uses 30% of the water (sometimes 50% if the bottom needs extra cleaning). I like the design of the hose because you can easily pinch the hose without bending it to slow water suction when moving past already clean areas. My only complaint is that I would like the end piece to be transparent instead of opaque so I can better see the footage being sucked into the device. I keep ghost shrimp, tiny and translucent: I just keep a close eye on where I'm sucking and keep my free hand on the hose, ready to pinch it if I need to slow or stop the flow of water. They stay away from that anyway.
