Review on 🎧 Sennheiser HD471G Headset with Inline Mic and 3 Button Control (No Longer in Production) by Peris Holland

Revainrating 4 out of 5

471 are very good. I wouldn't say they sound as good.

Headphones just received so this rating is provisional. I use 558 every day so I will use them as a benchmark and do a lot of comparisons between them. . Cables are available in 3" and 10" with the 3" cable having built-in play/pause, volume control and microphone. The 3 inch cable is quite thin and about the same size as most headphone cables. The cable is a bit thicker, about halfway between the 3 inch cable and the 558's cable. The detachable cables are VERY snug on the headphones. To remove the cable, slide your index finger between the headphone plug and earcup, pinch with your thumb, and pull straight up, perpendicular to the eartip. a bit of headroom, with an additional 1/2 inch width and 3/4 inch height compared to the 471. The 471's material is very soft and plush. It was a bit uncomfortable at first, but you quickly get used to it. I haven't used them for long, but I don't see any problems with them. In terms of sound quality, the 471s are pretty good. I won't say they sound as good as the 558s because that would be a lie (remember this review was written before it was recorded). Being open-ear headphones, the 558s have a wider soundstage and do a great job of not canceling out frequencies. It is very pleasant to listen to them. The 471s on the other hand have a slightly narrower soundstage with less depth, they are definitely a bit more isolated. Out of the box the 471 has a lot more mids than the 558. I clipped 1kHz and a tiny bit at 4kHz and it dramatically improved the sound (without EQ these headphones give me about 2 stars). Without breaking in, the 471 lacks bass compared to the 558. Also, the frequency ranges don't seem to blend together as well as they should. The 558s do an incredible job, they're easy to hear because the response is very smooth, while with the 471s I suspect there can be a bit of listening fatigue until they've had a chance to break in. 471 do their job well. Noise suppression and let absolutely no sound through during operation, even at fairly high volume. The pillow is very soundproof. Definitely a plus if you use them in the office or on the bus. These headphones also fit almost any head size. Extending about 2 inches on each side. I have a big head and there are about 3 more clicks of extension on either side. Some people say these headphones can't be loud enough. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and at volume 12/15 it's about as loud as I'd like to hear it. While it's quite interesting, 471 is quieter than 558 on my desktop, while 558 is quieter than 471 on my phone. So if you plan on using the 471 with a desktop computer and you don't have a sound card, you should consider a $30 card like the ASUS Xonar for extra performance. The 3 inch cable is really unacceptable for a $100 headphone. If you have big ears it may take some time to get used to the cups. The sound will likely improve after you break it in and you'll probably end up using the EQ to settle down. partly in the middle range. If you use them on your computer at home I would recommend upgrading to an extra Ra and getting a 558 if yours is quiet enough. If breaking in improves the sound enough I'd consider giving this a 5 star rating, but the cup sizes are a bit smaller and the cable being too thin would be a stretch. Nice headphones but I definitely think Sennheiser could have made a few small improvements to them.
