I'm not new to binoculars. I currently own and use a Nikon 8x40 Action EX, a Pentax UP 8x25 WP, a Pentax UP 8-16x21, a Pentax SP 20x60 WP, a Leupold 10x42 WP and a few Chinese 12x16 and 12x25 WP from other brands. I also owned a BARSKA X-Trail 15x70 for a while but had to return it after trying two pairs. I was hoping to use it for stargazing and long-distance terrestrial observations from a tripod. Unfortunately I have to give them 3 stars and that might even be generous. I tested them both in hand and on a stable tripod. Here are the reasons I would downgrade it by at least 2 stars: - The upgrade is clearly overpriced. My Pentax 20x60 gives me almost the same magnification as the highest available. - There is play in the eyepieces (top and bottom) which could explain why I was having trouble focusing. - I have a feeling they are a bit uncollimated. or it is due to the movement of the eyepieces - The zoom lever has play and sometimes seems to jump - Bad smell from the plastic housing, which has not completely disappeared even after a few days after unpacking. Compared to all my other binoculars they don't even come close in resolution, even compared to the small Pentax UP-Zoom which I would highly recommend. Even if it weren't for all the resolution and magnification issues I could still return them just for the smell, it's really that bad and you hold the binoculars close to your nose making it impossible to avoid. They're also fairly light for their size, which some find a plus, but a side benefit of lightweight, high-magnification binoculars is that they can't easily be handheld. i can tremble With my 20x60 Pentax I get much more stable images than with this one at 13x magnification. You can use them, yes, but if you've used something similar to the one mentioned above, you'll find it difficult to live with. My copy had issues and the others were fine, but the magnification issue and the sheer plastic smell put me off.
